Robin Hood Crew Presents: A Night to Support Horizons for Homeless Children’s Food Program

By Jonathan Bingham | May 26, 2015

A simple tweet – that’s all it took.

Back in March, Diane Hessan, CEO of the Startup Institute, took to Twitter to share a horrifying statistic that stopped me dead in my tracks: each year, 1 in 30 children in the United States are homeless. In 2013, this totaled 2.5 million children. This is certainly a disheartening statistic, but when you have your own children, it definitely hits too close to home.

That’s why my wife and I contacted the local group Horizons for Homeless Children to see how we could help. Horizons is a wonderful organization providing certified early education and daycare centers for children living in homeless shelters, allowing parents to continue working and children to develop educationally and emotionally in spite of a tough living situation. With all this great work being done by Horizons, it’s time we did some social good too.

My wife and I, along with a distinguished group of friends and colleagues, assembled the Robin Hood Crew. We all know the mantra of Robin Hood – take from the rich and give to the needy. And, our goal is to do just that.

On May 28, we are hosting a fundraising event in the lovely Liberty Hotel’s Alibi Bar and Lounge. Thanks to our great purveyors of awesomeness, which includes the Alibi Bar and Lounge, Lincoln Tavern & Restaurant, Row 34, A&B Salem, and The Chicken Box, we’ll have an unbelievable spread of food and beverage options. We’ll tease just a few of them: a pig roast courtesy of Lincoln Tavern and an amazing raw bar from Row 34. Our friends at Life is Good will also be sponsoring an adult “pick-your-poison” snow cone.

Also, a live and silent auction will take place including many outstanding items.

Our fundraising goal for the night is $50 thousand for Horizons. The funds will go toward the daycare centers’ food programs that provide healthy lunches and snacks to the children in the program.

It only takes a little to make an impact and we’ve already raised over $11 grand. Let’s help Horizons keep these children on the right track!
